PROTECTING HUMAN RIGHTS WITH LEGAL INSTRUMENTS
Guaranteeing human rights worldwide is one of today’s most important challenges.
Even now, at the start of the 21st century, systematic violation of human rights occur in every region of the world.
Genocide, torture, deportation, oppression, discrimination, deprivation of liberty or persecution for ethnical, political or religious reasons is as widespread as limitations of social, economic and cultural rights.
Governments and public authorities have actively committed or tolerated these crimes over decades, denying people their most basic rights.
In addition, human rights are often violated or ignored through ruthless corporate business practices.
Those responsible have rarely been called to account.
Nonetheless, the need to prosecute those responsible for atrocities has been recognised ever since the International Military Tribunals of Nuremberg and Tokyo.
The impunity of responsible persons abets new crimes.
The recourse to legal instruments is becoming ever more important in order to effectively uphold human rights.

Garantir direitos humanas worldwide é um de desafios os mais importantes de hoje.
Mesmo agora, no início do século XXI, a violação sistemática de direitas humanas ocorre em cada região do mundo.
Genocide, a tortura, a deportação, o oppression, a discriminação, a privation da liberdade ou o persecution para razões étnicas, políticas ou religiosas são tão difundidos quanto limitações de direitas sociais, econômicas e cultural.
Os governos e as autoridades públicas ativamente cometeram ou toleraram estes crimes sobre as décadas, negando a povos suas direitos mais básicas.
Além, as direitos humanas violated ou são ignoradas frequentemente com as práticas de negócio incorporado ruthless.
Aqueles responsáveis foram chamados raramente ao cliente. Nonetheless, a necessidade prosecute aqueles responsáveis para atrocities foi reconhecida sempre desde os tribunais militares internacionais de Nuremberg e de Tokyo.
O impunity de pessoas responsáveis abets crimes novos.
O recourse aos instrumentos legais está tornando-se sempre mais importante a fim uphold eficazmente direitos humanas.
